Description
An interesting air mail cover mailed in a Foreign Service of the United States of America envelope and addressed to New York, New York. Franked with Algeria Scott #66, the 10 franc Marabout of Sidi Yasoub stamp from 1927, #94, the 75 centime Oued River at Colomb-Bechar stamp from 1936, #104, the 3fr Sidi Bon Medine Cemetary at Tlemcen stamp from 1936 and #131, the surcharged 1fr on 90¢ stamp from 1939. All are tied to the cover by Alger-Plateau-Saulière, Algeria postmarks dated February 26, 1940. There is a Marseille Gare Avion, Bouches-du-Rhône roller cancel on the bottom (plus partial on the reverse) dated February 28, 1940. Interesting directional instructions typed on the front: "PAR AIR EN FRANCE, Alger-Marseille-Oran-Tanger-Lisbonne" and "PAR SERVICE AERIENNE TRANSATLANTIQUE LISBONNE NEW YORK."
