Antique ornate sterling silver hand mirror ca 1890, made by Gorham whose workmanship rivaled that of Tiffany, this is a fine example of their repousse' work, a labor intensive process requiring great skill and experience impossible to duplicate today. The repousse' work is above and beyond Gorham's regular work with deep relief rococo scrolls and swirls interspersed with roses and foliage extending down both sides of the loop handle, a design that allows the user to hang on a hook to shave etc. Measures approx. 8" across X 5" long. Very good condition with a few dimples around the edge, normal signs of age and use as expected after 100+ years, no dings, dents, breaks etc. The original beveled mirror insert shows signs of silver loss mostly around the edges, the center part is still intact.
