Mr Hogan was very reclusive in his professional and personal life. He hit golf balls, testing out clubs for his company late into his life on the par 3 course at Shady Oaks CC.  He could usually be found at his table at Shady Oaks watching members playing golf through the grill window. Hogan had a tough life as a kid and truly dug it out of the dirt. He earned it. His conversations with Gary Player and Nick Faldo represent he did not care to please people and was rarely approached except by people he considered friends. Those friends were people he enjoyed spending time with and did not engage in hero worship of himself.
Mr Hogan's work ethic and ability to figure out the golf swing are legendary. He revealed some of his swing thoughts for Sports Illustrated which later were published as Five Lessons and became the most popular instructional book in the game.
When Hogan hit the ball it made a different sound than his competitive playing partners. They often spent some of their range time watching Mr. Hogan. As Tommy Bolt said he never saw Hogan watching Nicklaus hit balls, but Jack was one of those spectators who watched Mr Hogan in hopes of finding a move or thought that would help their game. Arnold Palmer used a Hogan Company Driver for much of his career. Butch Harmon taught Tiger swing thoughts he learned from being around Mr. Hogan. Hogan's impact on the game of golf as a player and later as a club maker changed the game and the pursuit of ball striking more than any player in the history of the game.
