Description
VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER HANDLED REPOUSSE NAIL FILE.This is a small victorian silver handled steel blade nail file hallmarked Birmingham 1900. It measures app. 5" long and has the sponsor stamp of Adie & Lovekin Ltd.* It is in very good condition and is one of many hundreds of liquidated shop and pawnbrokers stock items having been in storage for at least 18 years (some longer).
*The firm began its business as Adie & Lovekin and was active in Snape Street, Hockley, Birmingham (before 1872). The firm became Adie & Lovekin Ltd in 1889. The company manufactured a wide range of silver fancy goods at the end of the 19th century and had a factory in Regent Street, Hockley, Birmingham. In 1894 they commissioned Mansell & Mansell to design a new factory at 23, Frederick Street, Birmingham which became known as 'Trafalgar Works'. They were leading Birmingham producers of sewing items, scissors, button hooks, pin cushions, babies rattles, bookmarks, nurses buckles and other novelty silver items; their speciality being animal shaped pin cushions in the form of pigs, swans, elephants and even camels..
